Clinical study: Migraine headaches are reduced by massage therapy.
Research:
In one study, 26 adults with migraine were randomly assigned to either a waiting list control group or a massage therapy group. Participants in the massage group received two 30-minute treatments per week for five consecutive weeks.
Results:
The participants in the massage therapy group reported:
- Fewer stress and strain symptoms
- Reduced pain
- More headache-free days
- Fewer sleep disorders
- An increase in the serotonin level
