The term hypnotherapy triggers many feelings in us. From scepticism to unease and fascination before the unknown at the same time. But more and more people have recognised the advantages of this treatment and are now benefiting from its positive effects. They are the best proof that this ancient technique can work. We would like to help you better understand hypnotherapy, which creates space for our subconscious.

The origin of hypnosis lies in Greek mythology. Hypnos = the god of sleep. He watches over the sleep of others. His son Morpheus, on the other hand, is the god of dreams.

The definition of hypnotherapy

Hypnosis performed by specialised therapists or doctors differs enormously from hypnosis performed on stage by magicians or the like. Therapeutic/medical hypnosis involves an altered state of consciousness, such as when dreaming. The subconscious, the soul, is addressed. If this is imbalanced, reasons for it can be found here, which are essential for the healing process. During hypnosis, one is in a reduced state of wakefulness, which is induced by relaxation techniques of the therapist.

How does hypnosis work?

First of all, a quiet and comfortable environment is helpful to be able to "let go". Falling into the soothing words of the therapist. His most important instrument is his voice. With this he brings the participants into a relaxed state of hypnosis. In addition, he incorporates visualisation and body awareness exercises into his speech so that you come closer and closer to your subconscious.

For this to succeed, mutual trust and the ability to let go are obligatory. Only then do you forget the world around you and the usual carousel of thoughts falls silent. This state is also called hyper-concentration, the focus is entirely on the subconscious and the information it reveals to us. In this way, inconsistencies can be identified that give rise to worries, fears and other mental or even physical complaints. Now is the time to eliminate them and bring the subconscious back into balance.

Hypnosis is a relaxed waking state!

Contrary to what some people think, you are fully conscious during hypnosis. You can leave the situation at any time and remain in control of yourself. The therapist merely helps you into the hypnotic state, but cannot fully control the participants. He accompanies us on the way to our subconscious and creates the appropriate conditions, helps us to answer and select our questions and guides us through the session. That alone is his task.

What is hypnotherapy good for?

Hypnotherapy can have an effect on many complaints and is often used in combination with conventional medicine. The list of areas of application is long and we have compiled the most important ones:

  • Stress reduction, often we are not aware of what triggers it
  • Fighting fears and compulsions
  • In important situations in life (exam, birth, wedding)
  • Remedying sleep disorders - when thoughts keep us awake
  • Withdrawal from smoking or other addictions
  • Combating trauma - coming to terms with tragic experiences
  • In case of sexual disorders or unfulfilled desire to have children
  • Supportive therapy for psychosomatic problems (eating disorders, skin diseases)
  • For relief from chronic pain
  • Mental illnesses such as depressions, phobias, neuroses

Is hypnotherapy treatment enough?

Even if you already feel better after one session, it is advisable to have several treatments. It is not always possible to get into a state of hypnosis and clarify all questions at the push of a button. If there is no improvement after a few sessions, hypnotherapy may not be the right method. A serious therapist will address this openly.

What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?

Although both can put us into the hypnotic state, they act completely differently.
The hypnotist does not pursue any therapeutic goals, but shows off his ability. We all know the images from the media when people behave bizarrely on stage under the direction of the hypnotist.
The hypnotherapist, on the other hand, is a practitioner trained and specialised in hypnosis who helps his subjects to heal themselves, to fathom their inner selves and to bring them back into balance.

How do you find the right hypnotherapist?

Unfortunately, there is still no officially recognised training as a hypnotherapist. This applies to several areas of alternative treatment methods and "professions". However, this can change at any time as the therapy becomes more and more popular, especially in clinics and hospitals.

The following criteria can help in the search for a reputable therapist:

  • Can he present a certificate of completion of at least 200 hours of instruction from a renowned institute?
  • What is the reputation of the therapist? Are there any testimonials or feedback?
  • Does your doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist or neurologist offer hypnotherapy? It has been included in the curriculum of some courses of study
  • Can your doctor possibly recommend a reputable and competent therapist?

A preliminary conversation can help to test the chemistry and build trust. At the slightest doubt, one should continue the search, as the success of the session is likely to be low.

Which hypnosis chair is recommended?

During hypnosis, the participant should relax. This is best achieved in the right ambience and in a comfortable environment. Our LuftiKus, the Alpha Techno FX-2 is an example of an ideal hypnosis chair. Its successful concept consists of a pleasant and relaxing as well as functional design.

Thanks to the zero-gravity function, the participant not only glides forward into a comfortable position, but hopefully also gently into their subconscious. The wide seating surfaces allow use regardless of the size of the test person.

The advantages for the practitioner are the easy maintenance, cleaning and disinfection of the chairs.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

Typically, a session lasts between 45 minutes and an hour, depending on the therapist's approach. After the participant has assumed a comfortable position, the therapist begins to navigate him into the hypnotic state with the help of his voice and relaxation exercises. Beforehand, it should be clarified in a conversation what the subject is hoping for and which questions he or she would like to have answered. The therapist should also briefly explain the procedure. After the treatment or at the beginning of the follow-up session, the result is reflected on and analysed together.

What does a hypnosis session cost?

The prices can vary and are also regionally different. However, they range between €45 and €85. The price is determined by the therapist himself and you should not hesitate to ask him beforehand.

Are there any risks with hypnosis?

The risk lies in the person, not in the method. If the therapist is insufficiently trained, he cannot respond to the participant and his problems. If the tool of hypnosis is in the wrong hands, this can become dangerous and trigger not an improvement but a worsening of the complaints. So pay attention to the above criteria when choosing!
